Mountainous, agricultural communities could benefit from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Rational Use of Energy (RUE) applications based on their high potential. The objective of the proposal is RES and RUE stimulation in four local communities of the European Union (EU), in a way that will ensure both the integrated and balanced evolution in the economical (employment), environmental, social and technological dimension.
Through an integrated consultation of all involved actors (policy makers, energy market and citizens) community channels will be established for the continual stimulation and adaptation of RES and RUE solutions. Furthermore, the needs and prospects of these communities will be analysed, as well as project ideas in terms of new technologies and new uses of land will be identified. Finally, the expected real changes will be put on the ground in the targeted communities and will be disseminated, supporting the design - modus operandi of a sustainable network in the mountain – agricultural communities in the enlarged EU.
Mountainous, agricultural communities could benefit from the use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) based on their high potential, as well as the penetration of Rational Use of Energy (RUE) taking into consideration the increased energy and electricity consumption, as an inevitable outcome of the economical development.
Given the above context, the project aims at RES and RUE stimulation in four mountainous, agricultural local communities of the European Union (EU), in a way that will ensure both the integrated and balanced evolution in the most common dimensions (economical – employment, environmental, social and technological) of the Sustainable Development (SD). Moreover, the knowledge and experience acquired will be transferred into less developed communities of the enlarged EU with similar characteristics.
In particular, the project’s objectives can be summarised as follows:
The project will incorporate the following Work Packages (WPs):
