Renewable energy provides a benefit that can be expressed through the number of EU citizens provided by renewable energy.
According to Eurostat, the number of citizens in the EU-27 rose from 491 million in 2005 to 499 million in 2009.
Consequently, by 2005, RES provided the equivalent amount of energy consumption of 42 million Europeans, a number which increased to about 48 million in 2007 and over 55 million in 2009.
