"Energy 4 Cohesion" will prepare a knowledge basis for the implementation of Renewable Energy (RE) actions in less developed rural regions of Europe. The project's focus is on dimensioning the RE actions for being relevant to receive financial support by Structural and Cohesion Funds during the funding period 2007-2013.
The project can be subdivided into four major fields of activities:
The project will demonstrate best practice in the eight selected target regions below:
The aim is to facilitate the implementation of RE actions in the selected regions by the identification of best funding mechanisms and suitable cooperation schemes.
The project will provide additional support for an extended use of Structural and Cohesion Funds for sustainable energy actions in the rural environment. Therefore a dialogue with decision makers at European and national level, with a focus also on the regional administration units, will be part of the project.
Furthermore, the project will prepare stakeholders in remote regions for the opportunities offered by European Cohesion Policies after 2006. Additional knowledge on suitable funding schemes will be created, such as Seed Money and a new Funding Quality Standard.
